Heartlands Residents Service Organsation (RSO)
Heartlands RSO provides a range of services to enhance the urban environment of Birmingham and provide employment and training to local people that are disadvantaged in the labour market.
The company was established in 2002 by Priority Estates Project Ltd as a residents service organisation - a community-led enterprise that is managed by local people and employs local residents to deliver needed services. By running the enterprise, residents are able to exercise ownership and control of the services that they receive, as well as retain income, jobs and skills within the area.
Heartlands RSO's services include:
Anti graffiti and fly
poster services
Heartlands RSO's Anti Graffiti Team removes graffiti and fly posters from buildings, street furniture and commercial spaces across seven wards in Birmingham. The team works closely with environmental and street wardens to identify and tackle problem areas, and to prioritise sites where offensive language and imagery have been used.
Gardening, landscaping and grounds maintenance services
With finance from the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund and a Clean & Safe grant, the enterprise delivers its gardening and landscaping services across five wards of Birmingham. It also delivers gardening services to other clients including Age Concern, Bloomsbury LMO Ltd, housing liaison boards, and individual residents.
Currently the enterprise's core client is Birmingham City Council however it is aiming to win more contracts with public, private and voluntary sector organisations to enable it to become a fully sustainable enterprise that¹s independent of funding.
The enterprise is also part of a small national network of resident service organisations across the UK that share information and ideas and provide a degree of mutual support.
