Brumcan
Brumcan is a social enterprise that offers a range of commercial and domestic recycling services to provide sustainable solutions to waste problems in the West Midlands. Brumcan was originally established by Friends of the Earth and Community Service Volunteers in 1991. Today it employs over 18 members of staff and provides training and work placements for up to 25 people. It is also supported by a large number of volunteers including local residents and employees from local businesses who help the enterprise to encourage greater participation in the recycling services and projects it provides. The income generated by Brumcan enables it to deliver innovative educational projects in schools and communities. Raising awareness of the importance of recycling is also a key part of Brumcan's mission.

The success and longevity of Brumcan can be attributed to its high quality services:
Commercial recycling services
It provides tailored office recycling services to around 150 businesses in Birmingham and Solihull enabling them to recycle anything from waste paper to mobile phones. Brumcan charges businesses for its commercial recycling services based on the frequency and volume of collections required, and it also offers one-off office clearances priced from £25 upwards. By providing this service Brumcan diverts around 360 tonnes of unwanted items from landfill each year.
Domestic recycling services
Brumcan collects dry waste materials such as glass bottles, food cans, clothes and shoes from local households for re-use and/or recycling via a kerbside collection scheme it delivers on behalf of Birmingham City Council. It provides this service to over 12,000 households across Moseley, Small Heath, Bordesley Green and South Yardley, collecting around 242 tonnes of waste each year. It also provides over 30 Mini Recycling Centres to medium and high rise estates across Birmingham that enable residents to contribute bottles, jars, and paper for recycling. In addition, Brumcan arranges occasional textile collections which have generated over 1 tonne of clothing and shoes.
